Celebrations at Cefn Caer

The Meirionnydd Branch of the Campaign for the Protection of Rural Wales (CPRW) has awarded Mr Elfyn Rowlands of Pennal a celebrated Rural Wales Award. The Award, celebrates projects or individuals that have made an important contribution to improving the environment and community life.

The Rural Wales Award was awarded to Mr Rowlands in recognition of his personal commitment and achievement in the restoration of Cefn Caer House, Pennal, nr Machynlleth. The restoration of Cefn Caer, which dates back to the 16th Century, has taken over eight years, Calling on the specialist traditional skills of local craftsmen, the house has been sympathetically restored, retaining and uncovering original features whilst also offering the comforts required of a 21st century home.

The Meirionnydd Branch Chairman-Mr David Richardson welcomed CPRW Branch members and guests to Cefn Caer. Guests included: CPRW�s National Chairman Mr Morlais Owens, CPRW Deputy Director - Sioned Humphreys, the Lord Lieutentant of Gwynedd - Professor Eric Sunderland and Pauline James of the Post Office, a representative from CADW; Cllr Morgan Vaughan, Peter Smith-a local author, representatives from Pennal Community Council and the Pennal local primary school, friends and family of Mr Rowlands.

Pauline James of the Post Office (the Award sponsors) presented Mr Rowlands with a framed certificate and the Lord Lieutenant presented a commemorative engraved slate plaque.

Mr Rowlands thanked CPRW and guests for the Rural Wales Award and for the recognition of the commitment undertaken.
